Australia Day

Australia Day is celebrated every year on the 26th January marking the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British ships at Port Jackson, Sydney. As time has evolved, in modern days, Australia Day celebrations reflect our diverse society and culture.

On this day, awards are presented by the Governor General and Prime Minister to individuals who works tirelessly within our community and make a difference and benefit our nation.

It is also a time to remember our traditional land owners - our indigenous people who have lived in this great land for thousands of years.

Events are held all over the country - people from all walks of life come together to celebrate.

Whatever your culture may be, I think we can all agree that this country really is a wonderful place to live and we are given many opportunities.

I acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which I live and work, and pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging. I recognise their enduring connection to land, waters and community.
